Today in JDeveloper, I can query SQL server when I need to. I just think it makes the tool more useful if it can be used against other DB's. Probably because I can use the same tools in JDeveloper against other databases -) Please reply via forum and email to david_vanemden# Why would you expect this to work? It is an oracle development tool designed to work against an oracle data dictionary. Is there something I can do to make this work? I have tried to select data from tables I know exists, I get the column headers but no data. When I select other users, I get an error, : listSchemas(boolean). However, when I select tables - I get nothing. I have managed to create a JDBC connection to a sybase database. I understand not supporting Oracle specific stuff, but basic JDBC connectivity shouldn't be a big deal. In JDeveloper I can connect to MSSQL, browse schema and run SQL, so why wouldn't that be the same in SQL Developer? Non-oracle database.I guess I'm confused. Of the features are likely to work against a You might well be able to connect to MSSQL, but none Shouldn't it just be a matter of getting the SQL Server JAR files into the path, since SQL Developer is based on JDeveloper? You might well be able to connect to MSSQL, but none of the features are likely to work against a non-oracle database.

I alreadry have ported Oracle Catalog view to firebird, that would permit Firebird users to use an Oracle tool o) OK, why can I import the connection from JDeveloper for a MS SQL server database then?

Would'nt it be possible to add other JDBC driver definitions ? And what about the custom URL part of the connection folder ? While we will allow, 3rd party access, it will be read only, just to get access to and move those objects.īarry The database link option allowed me to querry the data within a non-Oracle db in SQL Developer.

#CONNECTING TOAD SQL SERVER TO AS400 PLUS#
SQL Developer must be easily usable by non-Oracle customers in order to help us sell the DB server to them! Absolutely, Another plus for SQL Developer will be that in the near future, we will allow them to migrate their 3rd party databases to Oracle through the SQL Developer framework. SQL Developer is a really sweet tool and it could be a real draw into the DB server sales. If they have heterogenous services installed they are already an Oracle customer - we have little additional DB server sale opportunity there. If we can get non-Oracle developers (especially MS SQL Server) to use SQL Developer it will expose them to the superiority of the Oracle DB server. So the 'explain' button won't be available, or some of the DDL stuff, big deal! Let them get a taste of what they are missing by not having an Oracle database. JDBC allows simple introspection and execution of SQL commands. Look, SQL Developer has got to be a 'gateway' into Oracle DBs from other databases. Mike Use heterogenious services to create a DB link to the other databases. You could use SQL Developer into an Oracle database through the gateway to a non-Oracle database. Sharon The only way is to utilize one of Oracle's gateway products which allow you to access non-Oracle databases from within an Oracle database.

Once we have them, we can create a native browser.Ĭan you use SQL Developer against non Oracle data bases? If so, then how do you define the connection for non Oracle data bases? We only support Oracle database and only 9.2.0.1 and above. Its on our list of things to do this year, I assume this is db2/400? if so, then we need to figure out the queries to run to bring back the schema, tables, etc in the db. That is done at the database level rather than in SQL Developer S is right, you can do those things. If you have a jdbc driver for the AS400 database, you could try adding that to SQLDeveloper and putting in a custom URL.Īlternatively if you have an ODBC driver you might be able to use oracle's heteregenous services to connect to the AS400. Is a direct connection to an AS400 database possible? Or do I need to go through one of the others as a "pass-through"? I see where SQL developer can connect to MSACCESS, MySQL, and SQLServer databases. I am not migrating the AS400 data - both systems are live and contain data that needs to be kept in sync. I need to run some integrity checks between the 2 systems. Can SQL Developer connect to an AS400 JDE database? - SQL Developer I am running SQL Developer v 1.2.1 and can connect to an Oracle database with no problem.Ĭan SQL Developer connect to an AS400 JDE database?
